Week 3 was a busy week and I didn’t seem to take pictures of all the work we did.
Classical Conversations Grammar Review
Our favorite review game of the week was Let’s Go Fishing. I labeled the bottom of each fish with a letter for each of the Grammar Review areas. With 21 fish you can have three fish for each of the 7 Grammar areas. My 3-year-old, almost 4-year-old, has most of the memory work, however she will not say some of the words incorrectly. I don’t correct her pronunciation since she is learning. Usually if she omits something we just do the memory work together so that all of us hear it correctly. However, my 7-year-old is going for Memory Master. I do make sure to correct him. He likes to correct his sister and I work towards helping him encourage her instead of correcting her.
Kodi’s Challenge Work
We had a lesson on abstract nouns, and he worked to make a list of abstract nouns and nouns. When he wasn’t sure if a word was an abstract noun he used a dictionary to find the answer. Abstract nouns are nouns that can’t be touched. It can be a hard concept for the lower elementary student because for example happy is an adjective but happiness is a noun (aka abstract noun). You can see that he has words listed as abstract nouns that are adjectives. For example he has angry, an adjective. However anger is the noun form. Once he has his list of words we will walk through using the words in sentences to check his work.
In Montessori an abstract noun uses a the black noun trainable with a blue circle added inside.
I purchased the font School School Cursive LOE. I made made printouts of each letter on card stock then laminated. As each letter is introduced we use the sheets to practice. You can see that she is very precise with her tracing. This is her personality and she will erase the stray marks. Then we move to the lined whiteboard to practice. Logic of English recommends no tracing however, I find that it helps with muscle memory. I do calligraphy and when I practice new styles I also use tracing.
Daisy loved the bonus lesson from The Good and the Beautiful Math K. She used a dice and the found the matching number and colored in the object. Her number identification for 0-5 is excellent. She is still working on the number 6 and needed assistance with identifying that number.
Of course her favorite thing to this week was color mermaids!
Walking in the morning is how I keep my sanity. Homeschooling and working from home keeps me going in all directions from sunrise to well into the night.
We started ballet! So that was the big excitement for the week!
