My three-year-old the focus has been on numbers and quantity up to 10, and learning our letters and letter sounds.
To learn letters we have been working through the letter sounds using sound boxes, sandpaper letters, AlphaTales Books, and The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts for Pre-K (this is a great open and use curriculum that also includes some counting).
The amount of time depends on the day. Some days we make it through singing the ABCs before she wanders off to play. While other days she asks for more work.
My daughter loves to cut so I made her a letter sounds notebook for her to work through as we go through the letters. This also gives her additional opportunities to practice writing her letters while doing her favorite activity cutting and glueing.
Letter Sound Notebook
I printed the letter sound notebook pages doubled sided and then spiral bound it. You can also just put them it in a binder or hole punch with string.
Best Pencil for Little Hands
I love love love the Paper Mate Mates 1.3 mechanical pencils. They have a triangle shape which is easy for little hands. They don’t need to be sharpened. And the lead is super strong and doesn’t break. This pencil helps them have the correct grip. Both my three-year-old and six-year-old love them.
Letter Sound Notebook Images
For the letter images I used Home CEO Academy Alphabet Clipart Mega Bundle. Or you can look around on the web and collect your own images. I like the Home CEO Academy Alphabet Clipart Mega Bundle because the images come in color and black/white versions. I printed both because some days my daughter wants to color and other days she just wants to cut.
For the color images I made a template and dragged each image into the template. This was a slow process. I wanted to share a speedy way to make your letter sound images sheets.
- But all your images in a folder on your computer. You need 9 images for each of the 26 letters.
- Label the images in your folder so that all the all the letter A images start with A and all the letter X images start with X and so on.
- Open all the images in Preview (Mac) or Adobe.
- Print images: Select to reduce the image 25%, and print 9 to a page with a thin border.
- Save and print!!!
