I found these fun Pumpkin Erasers in the Halloween section at Target for $3 and thought they would be perfect for counting, sorting, and playing. They come in 4 colors, and there are 15 of each color. They are great for sorting, counting, pattern making, and fine motor skills. As well as creative play.
How we used them: First we sorted them into the little caldrons (also from Target). Then we counted them. I introduced making a simple pattern, be we mostly just lined them up. Then we stacked them.
How he use them: Once we work together for a bit, he decided the pumpkins should go in his train cars. Then he decided they sound be lined up on his train track. He really enjoyed lining them up on the track and spent at least an hour on this task, and has gone back to this task many times.
