I like free stuff, and I love sharing things with my readers. However at the same time I want my readers to share some the love back, either in the form of comments or likes. I have a recipe binder download that has been downloaded 165 with only 2 comments. Not a great rate of return. So how do I engage readers to make comment, share, or like?Ask them to “pay” with simple action, either liking or sharing, in exchange for a free download.
Once the reader likes or shares the post, the hidden content (or in my case the free download) is revealed.
There are many free and paid WordPress plugins that offer Like to Read. I ended up picking a paid option, OnePress Social Locker for WordPress.
OnePress Social Locker for WordPress cost $21 bucks. It is very easy to install, and offers many options, and styles. You can choose to ask the reader to “pay” by liking or sharing on the following social media networks.
- Facebook Like
- Facebook Share
- Twitter Tweet
- Twitter Follow
- Google +1
- Google Share
- LinkedIn Share
The best part of the plugin is that it provides liked/shared statistics.
In 24 hours after installing the plugin, I have increased my facebook fans by 7 people!
