I am always looking for new activities for my active little man. He is pretty easy when it comes to things to do outside, but we can’t always be outside. I decided to give a rice box a try.
It is pretty easy and cost around $20. to create. I bought an under the bed side storage box, filled it with a 20 lb bag of rice from Sam’s Club, add a few items from the dollar bin from Target, and put down a large table cloth.
At first I was only letting him play outside the box but he really wanted to be in the box. He was only allowed to keep the rice in the box. Yes, this takes a bit of work with a 15 month old, but he managed to doa pretty good job. Either way, make sure to have a large cloth under the box and clean up will be a snap.
I showed him how to dig, and pour the rice.
I would not leave him alone with this since we don’t want him to eat rice, get it in his nose or ears– you get the idea.
He loved it so much that we played with it before dinner, he then refused to eat he wanted back in the box. And as you can see he played in it in his PJs.
He started to get creative as sleepiness set in, and was no longer interested in digging and pouring the rice, and started “swimming” in the box.
