Today I start my 5k training. There have been many a year where I sign up for the Monument 10k only to realize I hate the cold, I am not good at running, and well I hate to run in the cold. But this year, and I mean it, this year is going to be different. I have reduced my expectations. I have never even been able to run a mile, so why start with something as large as a 10k. Instead I am starting small and going to run a 5k.
My plan is to follow the Couch-to-5K plan, and run the Richmond SPCA 5K on March 24, 2012.
The Couch-to-5K plan, has week 1 as: Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.
I used the Map My Run App to find out how fast and far I traveled.
How I did:
Time: 25 minutes
Miles: 1.83
Start Elev: 158 ft
Max Elev: 184.0 ft
Elevation Gain: 52.0 ft
Avg Pace: 13:36 min/mi
The Weather according to our Weather Station:
Temperature: 41.5 °F
Windchill: 38.0 °F
Wind: NW
Wind Speed: 5.4 mph
Wind Gust: 13.0mph
Humidity: 25%
Rain: 0.0oin
No run would be complete without my running buddies, Eva and Kodi.
Now I have 9 weeks on the Couch-to-5K plan and 12 weeks to the Richmond SPCA 5K.
You can view my SPCA donation page to donate to a good cause and help keep me motivated to keep up the good effort. http://www.richmondspca.org/doggiesage My goal is $150!
