So there may still be snow on the ground but I am dreaming of Spring. Before I left for New York the daffodils in our backyard were already in full bloom making me long for the smell of spring and to get back outside with my flowers.
At the beginning of February it is time to pick out seeds! I love looking through catalogues and dreaming of my garden. All of my seeds are heirloom seeds. My favorite place to purchase heirloom seeds is Seed Saver Exchange.

I try to save as many from year to year from the plants as I can. This year, I will be growing Rainbow Vine, various Marigolds, Calendulas, Cosmos and Zinnias from seeds I collected last year.
I have added so many new flowers this year. A few flowers I am really excite to grow this year are Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate, Bells of Ireland, Drumstick, and Platinum Blue.
We have so much work ahead of this year. The previous three years my flower garden was in the front yard and we had three square foot gardens in the backyard for vegetables.
This year I am going to have to move it to the backyard. My neighbor’s tree has grown so that I no longer receive August sunlight. By the end of the growing season all of my flowers are reaching sideways. So the task this year is to dig up large beds in the backyard that will be a mixed use between flowers and vegetables…. to be continued….
