I know this post should be about our new zoo member but I want to talk about a few of our older members first.
Jasper came to us… well I picked him up at Petsmart to Foster. He was a year and half. They said he had food aggression and could not be feed with other dogs. I said no problem I can fix it. And we fixed it. Along the way with him we learned that he HAD to be with other dogs. You can find Jasper chilling with the cats and all of the dogs. His role is similar to Pumpkin but unlike Pumpkin he is not a leader…. but maybe he is more than we realized.
Jasper has recently won a special place in my heart for two actions that could easily be overlooked. First, he stayed with Oliver while Oliver was dying. See the picture below.
Second, he is helping the new guy understand how our family treats cats. Today he showed the new zoo member that we do not freak out about cats… how did he do this? New guy was locked in on one of our cats. Jasper made a figure 8 around the new guy and the cats. Jasper then went and rested his head near the cat while the new guy watched. The new guy is still not sure about the cats– he wants to check them out in a very high prey mode– but he has been 100% calmer since Jasper did this.
