The goal of contemporary Art is to represent an epoch, while having an historical understanding and being a vehicle of communication and discussion. Art depicts, interprets, and questions the psychological, philosophical, spiritual, political, and economical conditions during a period of time. The works of Art exist in an historical framework, thus displaying awareness of that which came before, current times, and anticipation for the future. The voice Art speaks through can be personal, sub-cultural, cultural, and/or global in its questions, observations, and statements. Art is not entertainment because it requires awareness of thought and participation on the part of the viewer, the artist, and the institution in which the work is shown/viewed.
